We are pleased to show Container, a group show by guest curator, Kevin Lucey.
Jamey Hart and Brendan MacAllister create works that reference containment in a variety of ways. Jamey, who makes paintings that contain found objects, and Brendan, who paints containers objectively. Both artists bring up literal and metaphorical questions- what can a painting hold? How much can a painting hold? In what ways can the things we hold on to become paintings or be painted?
Jamey Hart is a painter living and working in Houston, Texas. Hart received his BFA in Painting from Cleveland Institute of Art in 2014. He is invested in the gestation of an object- the way a thing comes into being. The objects allow for introspection and curious conversations with material. They are about touching two things at once and staying there, in the amorphous part of making that is so fruitful.
Brendan MacAllister is an illustrator who lives and works in Beverly, Massachusetts. Brendan received his BFA from Montserrat College of Art with a concentration in illustration in 2016. His work is rooted in a brutish and naive style and often focuses on the absurdity of humanity. He uses a mix of dark humor, symbolism, and metaphor to create narrative works that often focus on taboo or unsavory subjects.
